Conservation Corps is accepting applications for Field Specialist, Crew Leader and Crew Member AmeriCorps positions for the 2013 Field Program. Apply by 12/3/2012 (positions open until filled). Position dates and stipend rates are posted at the bottom of this page.

Corpsmembers receive a monthly living allowance, health insurance, and student loan forbearance. Upon completing the program year with 900 or 1700 hours of service, members are eligible for an AmeriCorps post-service education award of $2,775 or $5,550, which can be used to pay college or qualified student loan expenses.

Members receive hands-on training working on habitat restoration projects with natural resource professionals. Corpsmembers also receive formal training in power and hand tool safety and use, wildland fire fighting and prescribed burning, First Aid and CPR, defensive driving, trailer safety and operation, leadership and communication, and other skills pertinent to region location and projects.

Typical projects include restoring native habitats by removing invasive species, fighting wildfires, conducting prescribed burns, building and improving motorized and non-motoized trails and waterways, planting native trees, GPS/GIS mapping and plant and wildlife surveys.

Corps members serve in four to six person crews and work 10-hour days including drive time, Monday through Thursday typically. Most projects require travel and overnight camping near the project site for 4 to 12 days, at no expense to the corps member.
