The Center for Social and Environmental Stewardship is seeking a highly motivated individual to support The Center’s Habitat Restoration and Environmental Stewardship Program, located at our Windsor office, in the implementation of habitat restoration projects and native plant nursery operations. The Environmental Steward Intern will work closely with The Center’s staff to receive on-the-job-training in ecological restoration techniques: including, native plant revegetation, maintenance and monitoring of habitat restoration projects, invasive species identification and removal, California native plant identification, seed collection and propagation.

The Environmental Steward Intern position is a paid, “at-will”, temporary, full-time position and employment is subject to fluctuations in weather and projects. The term of employment will not exceed 6 months.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • College graduate, or currently enrolled at an accredited college or university as a second semester sophomore, with either an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Studies, Education or Horticulture, or related field.
  • Applicant will be required to pass a criminal background check and posses a clean driving record.
  • California Drivers License and clean driving record.
  • Must be 18 years old at the time of hire and legally eligible to work in the U.S.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions this position. While performing duties for this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Lift and carry objects up to 50lbs., occasionally on steep irregular terrain.
  • Dig with hand tools for up to eight hours per day.
  • Continuously bend over and squat throughout an eight-hour day.
  • Perform a variety of tasks related to planting and maintaining plants.
  • Operate various power tools in a safe manner, including a brushcutter, chainsaw, etc.
  • Safely operate vehicles in heavy traffic and inclement weather for up to eight hours per day.
  • Work in a wildland setting for eight to ten hours per day, often in harsh weather.
