The Ocean Health Index is one of the key initiatives of the Global Marine Division of Conservation International.  Launched in August 2012, the Index is a new tool for policy-makers providing an overall measurement of ocean health based on scientific analysis of over 100 global data layers.  It is a measurement that couples ocean ecosystem health with human needs.  The Index scores every country in the world with a coastline, in ten key areas or “goals” that humans value or need for survival.

We are seeking an intern to help reach out to other marine groups and media organizations to increase the audience for the website (www.oceanhealthindex.org), the news stories and monthly newsletter, and amount of social media amplifying our stories.  We seek to increase traffic to the website and the number of subscribers to our e-bulletin.

In assisting in outreach and marketing, the intern will publicize the website and newsletter to targeted universities with marine programs, follow up with contributor’s organizations to reach out to their colleagues, and seek cross-promotional opportunities with marine NGOs and other digital media organizations.  The intern will make calls, adapt existing stories, and research and write social media posts.  There is also an opportunity to write an original story for the website.

The intern must be a college junior or senior, or college graduate.  A strong interest in conservation, and creativity and knowledge in digital communication is key; good writing and speaking skills also required.   The individual must be able to represent the project in telephone and social conversations.

Please apply by sending a resume to Wynette Yao, Digital Editor, Conservation International, wyao@conservation.org.
