Youth Activities Director for Summer Meal Program

Internship overview: This position will develop and facilitate educational activities for up to 25 youth, ages 5-18 who receive lunch from the St. Leo’s Summer Lunch Program. There will be two lunches a day held at two separate locations, both of which are community gardens. Intern will coordinate with volunteers at the community garden as well as staff from St. Leo’s to support youth activities. Harvest Pierce County will provide supervision and support for the position.

  • 10 week Summer Internship
  • June 9-August 15
  • 15 hours per week
  • 11am -2pm Mondays-Thursday; plus some flexible hours for planning

Organization overview: Harvest Pierce County (HPC) is a program of the Pierce Conservation District focused on urban agriculture and food security, partnering with City of Tacoma, Pierce County Sustainable Resources, Metro Parks Tacoma and other community partners. Areas of work of HPC include community garden development and support, Gleaning Program, and education to children and adults.  Harvest Pierce County and St. Leo’s Food Connection are collaborating to build a team for Summer 2014 who will provide much needed lunches to children who are food insecure and provide garden related activities and education.
Qualifications:

  • Experience with children and garden-based education
  • Basic knowledge of gardening
  • Resourceful
  • Must pass criminal record check
  • High School Degree
  • Must be able to transport self and supplies

Compensation:

  • $2000 stipend for 10 week position.  No benefits.
