Hiring Range: 12 ($16.28 to $18.11 per hour)

Scope
The STEM Program Assistant is a core member of Neighborhood House and the University of Washington’s collaboration to bring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programming to the High Point neighborhood of West Seattle. The Studio program is a community-based program designed to provide middle and high school students living in low-income public housing with opportunities to learn about STEM higher education and careers, and to develop interests, identities, and skills to pursue workforce opportunities in STEM. The Program Assistant is responsible for assisting the Studio Coordinator in program facilitation, partnership maintenance, and administrative responsibilities.

 

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate activities for youth that may include topics such as STEM and/or college readiness.
  • Assist in maintaining key partnerships (internal and external) that provide a wide range of STEM identity development for youth.
  • Create and monitor a schedule for the high school summer program, which will include a variety of internships, job shadows, service learning opportunities, and guest speakers.
  • Participate with the NH and UW team to build, support and strengthen programs, events and related enhancements to meet the needs of participants.
  • Track participant activities and achievements. Maintain accurate, complete records of participant placement and employer information in line with Neighborhood House standards.
  • Participate in and contribute to community events at High Point.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in education, human services or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • One year of experience in youth development,  community-based organizations, or other related experience
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of middle & high school age youth.
  • Effective skills communicating verbally and in writing with individuals from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to work with and be sensitive to a diverse cultural, ethnic, and racial population.
  • Strong organizational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards which may include: productivity/personal responsibility, client/customer service-orientation, embracing a team player orientation, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Must have independent reliable transportation to travel independently in King County.
  • Successful completion of Neighborhood House background check requirements.
  • Current First Aid certificate within 30 days of employment (maintain current certificate during employment).
  • Current CPR certificate within 30 days of employment (maintain current certificate during employment).
  • Child Protective Services (CPS) training (within 2 weeks).
  • Position requires Washington State bi-annual criminal background re-check.
