The Office of Sustainability is looking for a Sustainability Coordinator. This position reports to the University Architect/Sr. Associate Vice President of Planning + Design + Construction and supports the University’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all other activities.
Essential Function
The University of Cincinnati has signed the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) and organizes its sustainability activities through an All-University Committee of Faculty, Staff and Students. Under the supervision of the University Architect/Sr. Associate VP for Planning + Design + Construction (PDC), coordinate activities with the Associate VP of Facilities Management to assist with the Presidents’ Climate Commitment Initiative and work on sustainability efforts at the University of Cincinnati. The work will begin on the Uptown Campus but may expand to the other campuses as time and resources are available.
Primary Responsibilities
- Promote and coordinate sustainability initiatives across campus
- Provide support for the University’s Sustainability Initiatives and work with students, faculty, and staff
- Provide support to the President’s Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability (PACES)
- Develop strategies to promote sustainability efforts and lead the effort to create implementation plans
- Attend meetings in support of sustainability efforts as required
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of sustainability initiatives and accomplishments
- Create and maintain ongoing updates to the campus sustainability Web site
- Assist with developing and maintaining contacts on environmental issues
- Research initiatives as needed
- Provide general administrative work and other responsibilities as requested
- Assist with the creation and publication of on-campus sustainability initiatives as needed
- Assist in developing and implementing projects that combine the University’s Master
- Plan and UC Academic Plan principles, academic needs and Capital budget
- Work with user groups to maintain existing and developing new programs that assist in implementing the mission of the University Architect and PDC
- Manage multiple projects concurrently
- Conduct presentations utilizing mechanical and electronic graph applications
- Use computer applications to perform quantitative numerical, graphic, and other analysis
- Perform activities reporting to PDC and the Steering Committee including but not limited to the following: Run monthly PACES meeting; Coordinate with and provide support to student groups on campus; Coordinate the ongoing Climate Commitment 101 Lecture Series; Participate in the Ohio Higher Education Sustainability conference calls; Coordinate the participation and completion of sustainability surveys throughout the year; Coordinate competitions such as Recyclemania and Housing Conservation Challenge; Coordinate activities and programs in the UC Bike Shop.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors’ degree in Architecture, Urban Planning or related field with three (3) years’ relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with sustainability initiatives on university or college campuses
- Ability to lead and motivate student groups and help them be successful
- Ability to track and manage a budget
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suites, GIS, and Adobe Creative Suites
- Bachelor degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Environmental Sciences, or related field. Master’s degree in Community Planning preferred.
Unusual Working Conditions
- Working in an outdoor garden.
- Picking up and lifting items collected for recycling.
- Work hours may at times be outside traditional business hours to accommodate University events.
