Job Description:
Location: Furnace Creek, Death Valley National Park, California
Anticipated Season: Mid-October 2017 to April 2018
Responsibilities:
- Lead day field trips outdoors with school groups of up to fifty K-12 students
- Learn to facilitate student-centered programs focusing on a variety of natural and cultural topics in the field and in the classroom
- Assist with school and community outreach events
Compensation: $10.00 an hour/40 hours a week and may include holidays and weekends. Shared housing in dormitory style accommodations provided
Qualifications:
- Self-motivated and organized
- Flexible and adaptable to change
- Enthusiasm for working outdoors
- Confidently interacts with children, adolescents, and adults
- Solution-oriented decision maker
- Completed or working towards a bachelor or associate degree
- Understands basic concepts of environmental education (food chains, habitats, human impact on the environment, climate change, etc.)
- Possesses valid state-issued driver’s license
Other information:
While not required, it is recommended that the intern has their own vehicle during the internship for personal use. Death Valley National Park is remote, and the nearest town with grocery stores is approximately an hour away. A personal vehicle allows the intern to explore the park on their days off.
