I’m recruiting for a PhD assistantship in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources at Colorado State University, to begin fall 2019. My lab works on questions about human adaption to environment and climate changes, and how human adaptive behaviors relate to biodiversity conservation. Most of the work is field-based, and focuses on individual and small-group decision-making. Ongoing projects include:
- Incidence of and responses to human-wildlife conflict (mostly elephants eating maize and large carnivores eating livestock; southern Tanzania, the Kavango-Zambezi)
- Human mobility as adaptation (Tanzania)
- Climate observations of resource users and regional climate drivers (western Uganda, the Kavango-Zambezi)
- Small-group cooperation for land and resource management (Colorado, eastern Oregon, southern Tanzania)
The student will have the flexibility to pursue an independent PhD that’s at least somewhat related to the lab’s current projects. Interested applicants should email me a CV (including GRE scores) and a 1-2page note on career goals, a possible research plan, and qualifications. The deadline for this is 30 November. Also note the CSU Graduate School and Departmental application procedures.
