Become a Volunteer Ambassador for The Nature Conservancy!
Are you passionate about nature and want to share your passion with others? The Nature Conservancy is seeking outgoing and energetic volunteers to help share our story and bring new people into Oregon’s conservation movement. Volunteer Ambassadors represent The Nature Conservancy at concerts, schools, local farmer’s markets and similar local, public events in the Portland metro area and other locations across the state. Cultural competency and ability to speak another language is highly preferred. Possible reimbursement for travel, subject to availability.
Volunteer Ambassador Description
The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends.
Position Title: Ambassador Volunteer
Location: Portland and other varied locations
Report to: Nanda Ramos, Community Engagement Coordinator
Purpose:
Are you passionate about nature and want to tell the world about it? We need outgoing and energetic volunteers to help share our story and bring new people into Oregon’s conservation movement. You would represent The Nature Conservancy at concerts, schools, local farmers markets and similar local, public events.
Duties:
Represent The Nature Conservancy in Oregon at various events in metropolitan areas across the state. This would include sharing provided handouts and talking about The Nature Conservancy with people while tabling at events such as farmer’s markets, outdoor concerts, schools and various “meet-ups.”
Qualifications:
* Attendance at our volunteer orientation and other volunteer training sessions as needed to perform position duties.
* Highly personable and energetic.
* Comfortable talking to strangers.
* Enthusiasm and ability to work as part of a team.
* Willingness to follow talking points, but go “off script” as the conversation allows.
* Knowledge of The Nature Conservancy and/or willingness to learn.
* Willingness to commit to the mission of The Nature Conservancy.
* For events with youth participants, volunteer ambassadors will be required to be trained and screened for working with youth.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Cultural competency and the ability to speak a second language is highly desirable.
Length of appointment:
During event season, which is roughly April -November 2019. However, opportunities are available year-round starting January 2019.
Time Commitment:
Minimum 2 events per year (but you’re welcome to participate in more!). Typical event requires 2 to 6 hour time commitment, depending on location.

Support provided:
- Volunteer orientation and guidance/supervision from TNC staff
- Possible reimbursement for travel, subject to availability
- Build your knowledge and skills within the environmental and nonprofit field through community engagement, outreach, environmental education, communication and much more!
- Build your resume and have a reference for future employment, school, or scholarships
- Network with The Nature Conservancy staff and various partnering agencies
