The LHIP River & Trail Intern would help Lewis and Clark build upon its recreation program for Spanish speaking park visitors, with the goal of helping to provide equitable access to the outdoors for Latino families and youth through fun and engaging activities. It is anticipated that the R & T Intern lead, with planning assistance, monthly Spanish-language hikes or paddles (three events), including one held during Latino Conservation Week in July; serve as a youth camp counselor for the park’s annual, week-long Nature Adventure and Nature Survival camps; promote Spanish-language events on the park’s Facebook, Instagram and web sites, including review and assistance with the park’s Spanish-language version website; and connect with local partners, the Lower Columbia Hispanic Council and the Education Service District Migrant Education Summer Program, as well as foster the park’s emerging relationship with the Seattle and Portland chapters of Latino Outdoors. As in the past, the LHIP intern will have the opportunity to work occasionally in other park divisions, such as Administration, Natural and Cultural Resources and Facility Maintenance to gain additional knowledge of public lands work. The intern will attend parkwide seasonal training, including covering safety topics, history and natural resources background, teambuilding and an introduction to the NPS and public lands work.

Standard LHIP positions will go for a 10-week period will begin in late May through early June 2019 and conclude in July through early September 2019 depending on specific requirements of the project site.

Age 18 to 35

Possess US citizenship or permanent residence

Be enrolled in a post-secondary educational program or have graduated from college within the past year

Have a strong interest — or relevant experience —  in areas pertaining to — but not limited to —  history, historic preservation, public history, museum studies, archaeology, cultural interpretation, landscape architecture, anthropology or other related fields.

Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) — helpful and more needed for some positions
