Our work includes three core programs: 1) The Learning Network, a regional community providing opportunities for emerging and established philanthropy leaders to connect, learn and grow; 2) The Giving Practice, a national consulting team bringing customized solutions, deep regional relationships and national expertise to support organizations navigating philanthropy’s changing landscape; 3) An incubation platform for innovative philanthropic projects, including: Cascadia Foodshed Financing Project, Hmong Giving Circle, and Community Democracy Workshop.

THE INTERNSHIP
Do you love online media and using communications for good? If you have a passion for excellence and bringing real world stories to life, join our communications team! As our communications intern, you’ll be an integral part of Philanthropy Northwest’s growing communications team. You’ll work closely with the team on email marketing campaigns, digital newsletters, content creation, and social media.
This is a paid position, up to 20 hours per week while school is in session and then 32 hours per week for the duration of summer break. This position will report to our communications director.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support in preparing marketing materials for members including social media posts, emails and web content
- Maintain and update records in customer relationship management (CRM) database- Salesforce
- Support in website management, upload content, proofread and edit web copy, and post blogs
- Assist in production of monthly newsletters, format text and visuals, proofread and test email campaigns using MailChimp
- Work with the team on social media monitoring, creating new posts, and scheduling member content using Hootsuite
- Create content for blogs, newsletters, and other materials
- Assist in other marketing needs of the organization
- Assist with basic graphic design including social media visuals and photo editing
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Current undergraduate (junior or senior level) or graduate student in communications, marketing, public administration or business administration
- Experience working, interning, or volunteering in a communications/marketing related role
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Ability to manage deadlines and multiple tasks
- Comfort with ambiguity, flexibility and adapting to shifting priorities and plans, including delivering on tight deadlines
- Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively
- Willingness to learn and be coached
The following experience is not required but is a plus:
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and basic graphic design
- Using and applying AP Style
- Previous professional writing experience or portfolio
- Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse communities
SALARY AND BENEFITS
This position will be compensated $20.00/hour, and will join an engaging organization where learning and development happens continuously with lunch and learns, on-the-job learning, and dynamic meetings that advance professional thinking. Additionally, this position will gain exposure to many leaders and professionals in the philanthropic sector.
