General Summary:

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Director Facilities Project Management and Sustainability on the Dahlonega campus and will work directly with University of North Georgia Facility Directors and AVP on special projects related to the UNG Facilities enterprise.  Specific projects include energy management, sustainability initiatives, building commissioning, campus space data, space management, campus mapping, and other projects to be assigned as needed.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Assistant Director Facilities Project Management and Sustainability:

  • Audits utility cost and usage data for all UNG campuses – to include compiling utility bills in standard software programs to look for trends of energy consumption.  Additionally this position is responsible for annual reporting of utility cost and consumption to the Board of Regents and other reporting needs, for example the Sustainable Tracking Assessment & Rating System (STARS).
  • Works with student and faculty groups on sustainability initiatives to include representing staff interests on the President’s Committee for Sustainability and meeting with various student groups on a regular basis to promote sustainability projects on all 5 UNG campuses.
  • Works with outside contractors on building commissioning and other projects to include writing proposals for commissioning and recommissioning activities, identifying recommissioning projects, and monitoring contract work for compliance to prescribed standards.
  • Works with campus clients on building space needs to include supervising the Campus Space Planning position, prioritizing space needs, soliciting costs for projects to address space needs, and making recommendations for funding to the AVP for Facilities.
  • Maintains campus space management data in the Banner information system to include adding and editing building and room characteristics, sizes, and capacities.  Duties also include auditing building assignment data for accuracy and updates.  Additional duties include updating campus space utilization calculations to identify over and underutilized instructional and administrative spaces.
  • Oversees campus mapping and GIS information to include coordination between the University Relations Campus Bird system and GIS applications maintained by the Facilities department identifying utilities, streets, buildings and other physical features.  Duties also include management of campus signage standards on all campuses.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have proficiency in reading and understanding HVAC mechanical plans and specifications.
  • Awareness and the ability to calculate utility costs and metrics for utility usage for facilities.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of architectural space planning processes.
  • Skill in interpreting architectural programming requirements and objectives as required to develop conceptual space plans for tenant improvements, as well as of overall building layout, if necessary.
  • Skill in establishing effective working relationships with others.
  • Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Ability to work both independently in a self-directed manner, as well as collaboratively within a project team in a fast-paced environment with multiple building and tenant improvement planning requests from different stakeholders and end users.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and backgrounds.
  • Strong communication skills, verbally, graphically and in written correspondence.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products.

Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in facilities maintenance, engineering, planning, or a related field required
  • Experience in project management and energy management preferred
  • Experience with the review of commissioning plans and TAB verification.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and other graphic software is preferred.
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License, Certified Energy Manager (preferred), Certified Project Management Professional preferred.
