World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world’s leading conservation organization, seeks a Science Communications Intern for Global Science’s Strategic Engagements team for fall 2019.

 

For 50 years, WWF has committed to delivering science-based conservation results while incorporating the latest research and innovations into our work. WWF has a wealth of scientific expertise across its offices around the world. For these scientists to contribute most to achieving WWF’s mission, they need to communicate, collaborate, and coordinate with each other. A range of services to enable these interactions and facilitate access to the latest scientific information is being provided by WWF’s Global Science Network (GSN).

 

The Kathryn Fuller Science for Nature Fund advances the science of conservation with two programs: The annual Fuller Science for Nature Symposium, which convenes world leaders in science, policy, and conservation for presentations and discussions around an emerging scientific issue in conservation; and a quarterly series of Fuller Science for Nature Seminars that brings distinguished scientists from a variety of fields to Washington, DC to present cutting edge research of central importance to international conservation. This year’s Fuller Symposium will explore the nexus between human health and conservation.

 

We are looking for a motivated intern to assist on Fuller program related tasks and to help us continue to develop and promote the GSN, with an emphasis on maintaining and growing online resources.

Responsibilities

Internship Description:

 

Internship responsibilities may include:

  • Researching topics and speakers for the Fuller Symposium and Seminar series;
  • Providing input into building program agenda and speaker selection;
  • Drafting professional correspondence;
  • Developing website content and other communications materials;
  • Assisting in symposium marketing and overall outreach for the team;
  • Drafting text and content for promoting our programming internally within the WWF Network;
  • Assisting with other event planning and day-of activities related to the Fuller Fund;
  • Synthesizing digests of scientific literature;
  • And generally playing a central role for the Strategic Engagements team.

The intern will be based in WWF’s Global Science team and will work with science, communications, creative solutions, development, the web team and other goal staff as needed. This internship is an excellent opportunity to interact with experts in WWF-US and around the world; to learn about WWF and its projects; and to get exposure to conservation science topics.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

A successful candidate will be detail-oriented and have strong research, writing, organizational, and communication skills; and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Experience with writing for websites, digital skills, literature databases, publicity research and social networking is helpful. Experience with event planning and coordinating logistics is beneficial. Background in the public health, biological, physical, social sciences, or science communications is preferred, as well as experience with conservation or environmental dynamics influencing human health.

  • Minimum of 35 hours per week
  • Must be able to work on October 22, 2019 from 9am – 6pm
  • Recent graduate, or current graduate degree in progress
  • Experience in design and an aptitude for video editing or data visualization is helpful
  • Ability to perform research in a speedy manner
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, for print and online
  • Attention to detail, ability to keep on task, and organizational skills a must
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of PC computers
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a cool head under pressure
  • Ability to work longer hours on week of event if needed, is preferred
  • Familiarity with peer reviewed science literature desirable
  • Experience with MailChimp desirable
