Grad Student Positions: Environmental Geography
I am looking for highly motivated Masters and Ph.D. students interested in working with me to pursue their graduate degrees in Geography at San Diego State University. The Ph.D. program is a joint doctoral program with the University of California, Santa Barbara.
I am looking for students who want to study the intersections of environmental conservation and resilient livelihoods, particularly in Africa or Southern California. General research areas of interest include: agroforestry and agriculture, livelihood resilience to drought, subjective resilience, community-based conservation, and sustainable land use management. I am looking for students who want to propose their own research or join one of my ongoing or upcoming projects:
– Measuring subjective resilience to drought in Tanzania
– Drought, pastoralism, and land tenure on the Kenya/Tanzania border
– Benefits of mobile phone use for sustainable land management in Tanzania
– Resilience and agricultural decision-making in the Imperial Valley, California
There is some funding available through the department, as well as possible funding opportunities through grants. Applicants are automatically reviewed for Graduate Assistant positions within the department. All Ph.D. students are fully funded for 4 years.
Interested students should e-mail me at aquandt@sdsu.edu with their CV/Resume and a one page statement of (1) their research interests and research project ideas, and (2) their longer term career goals and how graduate school helps them achieve those goals.
