We are currently recruiting for an MSc or PhD student to participate in an exciting new project based in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Research will focus on characterizing glacially-derived organic matter export from Rocky Mountain glaciers and ice fields, and coupling this with measurements of downstream microbial community composition and carbon utilization. The successful applicant will conduct summer field work in Banff and Jasper National Parks as part of a larger inter-disciplinary team, and will be based at the University of Alberta under the co-supervision of Drs. Suzanne Tank (Biological Sciences) and Maya Bhatia (Earth and Atmospheric Sciences). Successful applicants can expect to gain expertise in several aspect of biogeochemistry and microbial ecology, including bulk and molecular carbon characterization and microbial community analysis. The ideal start date for this position is May 2020.

This project is part of the newly-initiated Canadian Mountain Network, and represents an exciting opportunity for a motivated student to work within a broad-based multi-disciplinary group on a novel project with important scientific and societal significance.
