Renewable Energy Education Internship

Puget Sound Energy is seeking part time interns for the Renewable Energy Center at the Wild Horse Wind Facility. The Renewable Energy Center sits in the middle of the 149 wind turbine facility, which powers around 65,000 homes, and attracts over 12,000 visitors a year.

 

Job Description:

The Renewable Energy Education Internship is a blend of public relations, tourism, education, and science. The internship gives staff a broad knowledge of the wind industry, wind turbine technology, and natural history, as well as an education and tourism experience.

  • 7 month internship, with occasional assignments after October.
  • The facility is open 9:00 to 5:00 (open at 8:45), seven days a week, from April-Oct 31st.
  • Greet visitors to the facility and answer questions regarding wind and solar technology.
  • Give presentations and tours, to businesses, schools, and other groups.
  • Design and implement educational activities for school groups.
  • Keep the visitor center clean, stocked, and set-up for conferences.
  • Pay $14/hr. Students can use this internship for credit as well.
  • Staff are hired and contracted through the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce.

 

Requirements:

  • College degree or student in pursuit of a degree.
  • Position is part time, approximately 15-39 hours a week, depending on our tour schedule and staff availability.
  • Must be available to work most weekends throughout the internship. Staff will also be expected to work various weekdays, especially during the spring. Shifts are a full day, unless we need extra staffing for field trips.
  • A genuine interest in renewable energy.
  • Must be a quick learner, able to memorize and effectively communicate information pertaining to electricity, the environment, native plants and animals, and forms of energy production.
  • Must have strong public speaking skills. Daily tours and presentations of up to 2 hours in length will be conducted throughout the day.
  • Must possess excellent people skills, be engaging and approachable, and willing to teach and converse with all visitors.
  • Must be a self-starter who can recognize tasks and opportunities to improve the visitor center.

This position closes at noon on Feb. 20th, 2020, and interviews will take place February 25th-28th. Mandatory training will take place March 30th, and the visitor center opens on April 1st.  Must be able to attend First Aid training during the first 2 weeks of April.
