In partnership with the U.S. Forest Service Region 6, MobilizeGreen seeks a 56-week Treasured Landscapes Resource Assistant (RA) to work in Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. The RA will be responsible for working with the Forest Service,  multiple communities, and other partners to develop significant landscape restoration and outdoor enhancement projects that connect Puget Sound area communities to their public lands. The RA also will have the opportunity to assist the Forest Service and National Forest Foundation to plan, develop, and support key forest conservation and enhancement projects that are a part of the Treasured Landscapes campaign. The Forest Service mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the Nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations.  Established in 1905, the agency works with communities and organizations to conserve and enhance the watersheds, wildlife habitat and wild places across the 193-million-acre National Forest System. The 1.7 million acres Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest is one of the highest visited National Forest in the nation with approximately 5 million visits annually.  Darrington is a within a one hour drive from the Puget Sound Metropolitan area, with access to hiking, camping, mountaineering, and backpacking recreational activities.  The population is approximately 1200 people.

 

Location: Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, 1405 Emens Avenue North, Darrington, WA 98201.

 

Term:  56-weeks, starting in Spring 2020. Full Time/40 hours per week

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with Forest Servicee and National Forest Foundation personnel to plan, develop, and support key forest conservation and enhancement projects that are a part of the Treasured Landscapes campaign. Projects may include but not limited to recreation enhancements, riparian restoration, alpine meadow preservation, and native planting.
  • Work with the project leader to plan specific project elements and conduct preliminary National Environmental Policy Act review.
  • Support the development of Treasured Landscape projects by coordinating with staff at both District offices and the Supervisor’s Office.
  • Work with local communities, State and federal agencies, and other participating organizations to support projects and events related to the implementation of the Treasured Landscape initiative.
  • Work with partners to develop inclusive educational and interpretive materials and displays that connect people to their public lands including diverse communities, schools, and youth organizations in the Puget Sound area.
  • Develop and contribute written stories for sharing on Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, National Forest Foundation and partners’ websites, social media sites, blogs, and magazine.
  • Support any National Forest Foundation Friends of the Forest® Day volunteer stewardship events with the Forest Service and partner organizations. Ensure quality work opportunities are provided for volunteers and help build a constituency for National Forests through these events.
  • Work with Forest Service and National Forest Foundation personnel and other partner organizations to evaluate projects and events and provide recommendations for improvements.

 

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Preferred a college/graduate degree in natural resources management, environmental science, recreation, environmental education, environmental communication, or conservation-related field.
  • Strong writing skills with demonstrated writing ability (writing sample may be required).
  • Ability to work both independently and with others collaboratively on projects.
  • Deep interest in environment/natural resource management and the US Forest Service.

 

Work Environment: May be required to travel and work in the backcountry and other remote locations in the forest, independently, and in teams. Field work and administrative work in an office.
