Duties: The incumbent will serve as a crew member and is expected to be responsible for a variety of duties over the course of employment. Duties will range from timber sale preparation and inventory to helping assist in a large planting contract and being involved in numerous spraying contracts within the campgrounds. Specific timber sale prep duties will be stand inventory, unit boundary marking, area determination, individual tree marking and volume determination. Some individuals may also assist in timber sale contract harvest inspection. This work requires technical ability to use tree measurement equipment. Training will be provided. The work is often arduous due to rough terrain and adverse weather conditions.
Incumbents will also be expected to assist with silvicultural activities, including: serving as an inspector on planting and tree spraying contracts, assisting with cone collection, and collecting stand exam data to be used for planning and stand certification purposes. The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest is a very large forest covering numerous mountain ranges and the crew will have duties located all over the forest. The crew should expect to frequently work out of travel trailers or guard stations at remote locations.
