The Department of Corrections, Correctional Industries (CI) is seeking a person to join the dynamic statewide Workforce Development team as an Exempt Industries Specialist 2 (IS2) Workforce Development Specialist (WDS). The Workforce Development Specialist is integral in implementing programs, facilitating classes and supporting individuals working for Correctional Industries in their release from incarceration to employment in the community. Workforce Development’s Strategic Plan’s Three Objectives are:
- To ensure every qualified CI inmate is “work ready” and employable upon release;
- To achieve post release employment as part of a unified employment plan developed by the program specialists in collaboration with the individual;
- To develop partnerships with community providers on job readiness, job placement, and training and education.
The position is located at Monroe Correctional Complex in Monroe, Washington State.

Duties
• Coordinate, manage, assess and implement Workforce Development (WD) at assigned location. (please click here to view our WD Strategic Plan for additional information)
• Lead the development of work readiness skills and documentation with inmates (Resumes, Reference Letters, Interview Skills, Employment Release Planning, Job Search, etc)
• As a certified trainer, coordinate, deliver and evaluate CI programs, to include participating as the lead trainer with other trained volunteer staff ensuring that the quality of instruction meets established criteria.
• Organize and conduct mock interview panels, including scheduling and arranging staff and business community panel members and coordinating availability of inmates with supervisors.
• Professionally represent DOC/CI/Reentry at internal and external meetings, and to other community stakeholders and the public.
• Maintain documentation and process and route Certificates of Proficiency, and track other CI certifications in the Offender Network Management Information (OMNI) system.
• With CI management and the facility, arrange and lead CI tours for employers, non-profits, and community partners.
• Maintain resources, books and a computer for the inmate “resource center.”
• Maintain inmate records and central databases.
• Supervise an inmate clerk.
• Refer eligible offenders to the CI Community Employment Services.
• Facilitate referrals and connections between the CI Community Employment Specialists and community partners/employers in specific counties.
• Travel statewide (and possibly out of state) with occasional overnight stays to participate in conferences, team meetings, Mock Interview fairs, facility tours and other business and professional development opportunities.
