Job Description
PURPOSE:
Perform field survey and mapping functions with survey crew and office surveyors to support airfield construction projects and mapping efforts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Work as a member of a survey crew performing construction layouts and mapping or Computer Aided Design (CAD) services.
- Process field files and reduce notes in preparation of inserting data into base maps.
- Take horizontal and vertical measurements, establishing survey points, and as-building new structures.
- Locate new taxiways, aprons, utilities, and fill projects using conventional and GPS surveys.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Must be able to use hand held calculator.
- Must possess knowledge of MS Excel and survey software.
- Knowledge of CAD Programs, survey instruments and understanding of survey procedures.
- Must possess knowledge and ability to work safely in heavy traffic areas around trucks and planes.
- Must be able to carry up to 20 pounds of equipment over uneven terrain.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a currently enrolled student (or recently graduated; interns may intern up to twelve months post-graduation) and taken at least one survey course at a community college or university.
- Some demonstrated experience using terminology related to civil engineering and construction.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of Auto CAD software is desired.
Internship Requirements

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
In order to be eligible for an internship, applicants must be enrolled in school, about to enroll in school, or a recent graduate from an accredited degree program. Candidates must be able to maintain student status in an Undergraduate program throughout the duration of the internship unless recently graduated and are eligible for up-to twelve months post-graduation. Interns will be subject to all Port policies and procedures.
Work Environment
Work environment includes both office and construction site setting. Construction site work may include all types of inclement weather with excessive noise. May be required to perform physically active tasks that entail walking, stooping, crawling, and climbing.
Additional Details
WEEKLY STANDARD HOURS:
This is a summer intern position expected to last for roughly three (3) months during the summer of 2019. Normal work hours will typically be scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
OVERTIME ELIGIBLE:
This position is eligible for overtime pay.
DRIVER’S LICENSE INFORMATION:
A valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required.
