Application and Eligibility

The program is open to non-University of Minnesota

students majoring in the Earth sciences or related fields.

Freshmen will not be considered. Students must be

citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

All application materials must be received by the

deadline, February 3, 2012.

The application must include the following items:

* Application Form (available on the web site)

* Cover Letter should address your motivation; reason for

choosing our UMN program; goals and expectations

from our program. Also, note anything else that will help

us understand you better.

* One letter of recommendation from a professor who can

vouch for your research experience and/or potential.

* One original/official undergraduate transcript(s).

All application materials except the transcript(s) may be

sent by email or postal mail to Ms. Kressler.

About the Program

Our Department is seeking undergraduate science majors to participate in

a 10-week NSF-sponsored summer research program designed around the

theme of “geofluids”. Participants will work with individual faculty members

and their research groups, and will be actively involved in current research

projects. Research can involve field, analytical, experimental, or theoretical

study of geological fluids, and will range from investigations of surface

and near-surface fluid systems to deep earth processes in the lower crust,

mantle, and core.

Contact Information

We encourage applicants to correspond directly with potential

faculty advisors about their interest in the program and to

inquire about potential summer research topics. For a list of

Department faculty and links to descriptions of their research

specialties, see
