2011 Collegiate Leaders in Environmental Health
CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (NCEH/ATSDR) are offering a 10-week summer internship program for students who are passionate about the environment, interested in human health, and curious about how they are linked. During the course of the internship, students are introduced to environmental health at the federal level through collaborative projects, experiential learning opportunities, individual environmental health presentations, journal clubs, field trips, brown bag lunches, and shadowing and mentoring relationships at CDC/ATSDR. Interns will be based at CDC/ATSDR’s Chamblee Campus and will be paid a stipend of approximately $600 a week during the course of the program.

Eligibility requirements for CLEH interns:
1. US citizenship or Permanent Resident with a green card
2. Full time enrollment at a college or university as a rising junior or rising senior by fall 2012
3. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF)*
Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping, University of New Hampshire
The Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping – Summer Undergraduate Research
Fellowships (CCOM-SURF) program is designed to create research
experiences for undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing
graduate work. The program is aimed primarily at students who are
working toward a degree in science, engineering, or math and are
completing their junior year.
Students accepted into the program will spend up to 10 intensive weeks
(normally early-June to mid-August) conducting research with a CCOM
faculty mentor. Research activities may include laboratory experiments,
field work, a research cruise, data analysis, model development, or
instrument development. The research conducted by all fellows will be
presented to CCOM at the end of the summer, and summarized in a written
report.
Students should apply by March 1, and will be informed of the selection
committee’s decision by April 1. We expect to offer up to eight
fellowships each year, but numbers may vary depending on availability of
mentors and appropriate funding. Students will be paid a stipend, but
will be responsible for their own travel to and from UNH.
To apply, students should submit a current transcript indicating their
GPA, two letters of recommendation from faculty at their home
institution, and a short essay that outlines their research interests
and reasons for applying for the SURF. Submissions should be in PDF
