The Siskiyou Mountain Club is looking for volunteers this summer to help maintain a system of trails in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area. Participants work from remote basecamps in the Kalmiopsis for week-long work spikes. We use crosscut saws and other hand tools to re-open trails left impassable by the 2002 Biscuit Fire’s aftermath.
This is an opportunity to have an active, first hand experience in one of Oregon’s most biologically diverse, remote and unique landscapes, all while providing a much needed service. Without the work we do, these trails would be lost forever. Plus, you get to work along side knowledgeable crew leaders, swim in the Chetco River’s emerald waters, and hike through botanical areas seldom seen.
You provide your time, some basic gear, and an adventurous attitude. We provide tools, food, and an adventure of a lifetime. Kalmiopsis work spikes run June 22-30, Aug 10-17 and Aug 18-26. Our calendar of events and an easy, online sign-upform is available on the sidebar at http://www.siskiyoumountainclub.org
