District, and day to day supervision will be by the Environmental Education
Program Manager. The position is temporary, part-time, and non-exempt
(hourly). Medical, dental and vision benefits are not provided.
Location
Duties for this position will take place at Lake Berryessa in Napa County.
Occasional requirements will be held at the Dixon Field Office of the USDA
Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Solano County California.
Dates, Days and Times of Employment:
Training: Saturday, May 12th
Position begins on Saturday, May 19th – September 3rd (Labor Day Weekend)
20 hrs/wk: Weekly 3 hrs, Saturday (7:30am-2:00pm) (4pm – 8pm) & Sunday
(7:30am-3:00pm)
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provide surveys and distribute watershed protection education
materials to boaters and campers including one-on-one outreach on water
quality
* Educate boaters on invasive species
* Create weekend summaries
* Organize data collected each weekend
* Compose newsletter articles about watershed protection
* Be enthusiastic to wear the “Bilgee” costume and inform boaters of
Lake Berryessa’s bilge pad program
* Other duties as assigned by the Education Program Manager
Desired Qualifications
We are looking for a junior or senior level undergraduate student or
graduate student who has taken classes in environmental science,
environmental education, watershed science, ecology or similar field. The
person must have excellent interpersonal skills (especially speaking with
the public), exhibit competence in public outreach, extremely organized and
comfortable working alone or in a team.
Compensation:
$13-$14 per hour — Depending on experience.
Mileage provided for driving around the lake.
Weekend lodging is not provided. Camping is optional.
