DESCRIPTION Field Assistants will conduct extensive boat electrofishing surveys on the Willamette River in western Oregon from Portland to Eugene. Additional sampling will include seining and backpack electrofishing. Electrofishing surveys will also be conducted in streams in the H. J. Andrews Experimental Forest, near Blue River, Oregon.Central field office will be in Corvallis but some overnight stays will be necessary (lodging will be provided).
QUALIFICATIONS The work is physically strenuous and involves field conditions of working and hiking in streams and rivers with uneven footing. Long days with high temperatures and little shade will be encountered. Lifting and carrying loads of up to 40 pounds will occasionally be required. Employees must be able to work as a team member and be capable of living and working in close quarters for extended periods of time with other employees. All applicants must have a valid driver’s license and be proficient in using metric measurements. Previous experience using backpack/boat electrofishers is preferred but not required. Candidates must have neat handwriting and be responsible for data accuracy and completeness. Experience in the handling of motorized boats on large rivers is preferred but not required.
