See Below USGBC has an opportunity for a currently-enrolled or recently graduated student to undertake a practical learning experience through an unpaid internship with its Advocacy team focused on federal policy.
The Federal Policy Intern will provide valuable assistance to USBGC National Advocacy staff by helping to track federal level policies relating to green building, support federal government planning events, attend Congressional hearings and summarize to Advocacy staff, and develop materials relating to federal policy and outreach.
The learning objectives of this internship include:
- Understanding green building issues in the federal policy arena
- Clearly expressing concepts of sustainability and green building advocacy
- More fully understanding the benefits of green building and operations practices
- Developing experience in non-profit workplace and sector
Internship Details Include:
- Tracking green building related policies and programs as offered by Congress and the Administration
- Attending Congressional briefings on green building issues
- Developing materials for Congressional outreach and federal advocacy efforts
- Supporting the planning of USGBC National Advocacy events
Education & Training Requirements/Preferences:
- Current enrollment in, or recent graduation from undergraduate or graduate program of study
- Major or specialization in the building sciences, organizational sustainability, business, nonprofit management, public health; or relevant experience preferred
Experience Requirements:
- Previous work experience in team/office setting preferred
- Experience in Congressional affairs or government operations
- Experience in researching and communicating complex policy issues
Other Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills (MS Office)
- A strong interest in organizational sustainability
- Commitment to USGBC’s mission
- LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred
