The CIEE Research Station Bonaire is accepting applications for volunteer intern positions.  There are several research projects currently underway at the station: a long-term coral reef monitoring program, a study on a calcareous alga that is overgrowing live coral in Lac bay, parasitism of the invasive lionfish and the feeding ecology of lionfish.

The positions are strictly voluntary; interns are responsible for airfare, meals, personal health insurance, and other expenses.  CIEE Research Station Bonaire will provide a shared room with a kitchenette, wireless internet and private bathroom.  Interns are expected to follow the house rules and to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.

Minimum Qualifications: Have completed at least a BS in Biology/Zoology/Oceanography or related field of science; current certifications in First Aid, CPR, DAN Oxygen Rescue, and SCUBA; a comprehensive dive physical and a driver’s license

The Bill Wildin Volunteer Internship Travel Award ($1,250) will be given to the intern that is selected to study lionfish feeding ecology.  The award winner will be required to present the results of the research to the public at the end of the summer.

To apply for the travel award, a 1-page personal statement of how the internship will help you should be included with your application.

To apply send a cover letter and CV listing contact information for 3 references to Dr. Rita Peachey (rpeachey@ciee.org).  In addition, a letter of recommendation from a faculty member from your college/university must be emailed directly from the faculty member to Dr. Peachey.
