(FW) Re-Interpreting Liberation: Third World Movements and Migrations (upper division program exploring historical notions of liberation through several case studies from Latin America, the Middle East, and South Asia). Teaching Partners: Savvina Chowdhury, Therese Saliba.

(WS) Literature and the Cultural Politics of Democracy in Chile and Brazil (upper division program on literature, history, film, and theory, with intensive Spanish/Portuguese language study; four-week study abroad in Brazil or local community-based learning in spring. (FWS) Memory of Fire: Spain and Latin America (upper division program on literature and history of Spain and Latin America, with intensive Spanish language and study abroad components in Úbeda, Spain and Santo Tomás, Nicaragua).  Teaching Partners: Diego de Acosta, Adjunct David Philips. Note: This program was renamed The Spanish-Speaking World in 2010-2011.

2005-2006

(F) Central America: Poetry and Politics (upper division program on literature and history of Guatemala, Nicaragua, and El Salvador; workshops in creative writing and literary translation). Produced bilingual anthology of testimonios En sus propias palabras/In Their Own Words, distributed to western Washington libraries, schools, and community organizations serving Latino populations.  Teaching Partner: Bill Ransom.

(W) Cuerpos políticos: Literatura chilena reciente/Political Bodies: Recent Chilean Literature (advanced Spanish program, Chilean cultural studies).  Taught solo.

(S) Nation and Narration: Mexico and Brazil (all-level cultural studies program on constructions of national identity in literature).  Teaching Partner: Greg Mullins.
