On the Farm July 30th

These past few weeks of sun and heat have brought on some of our heat loving crops like eggplants and peppers a bit earlier than last year.  Tomatoes were trellised late, so we are looking forward to a delayed, but steady harvest starting in the next few weeks.

Six weeks ago a deceivingly small box arrived at the farm with 50 Freedom Ranger day-old chicks.  Since that day we have been caring for these 50 pasture-based meat chickens with an ultimate goal of providing our community with organically fed, pasture raised and ultra-happy chicken to put into their freezers.  Our chicken harvest day will be Friday, August 30th and three to five pound chicken will be available for pick up that afternoon.

In addition to contributing to our diet and nutrient-filled selves, these chickens have provided the pasture with fertilization and the students with experience raising livestock and contributing to daily chore activities.  If you would like to come by the farm and meet your meat or reserve some chicken for pick up on Harvest day, please do not hesitate to contact us.
