I am currently in my second year at The Evergreen State College, studying an array humanities, arts, and science. I was enthusiastic to study fern spore ejection because I wanted to learn more about native foliage. It was also an exciting project because we were able to observe plants moving at extraordinary speeds. Although capturing the ejection process proved difficult, it filled me with wonder and amazement to watch the ingenuity of nature.
The topic of DNA barcoding intrigued me because of the simple, straight forward nature of this new technology. It will be exciting to see how this new addition to taxonomy will benefit our current understanding of species and help us categorize new ones.

I am a wanderer, a discoverer, a seeker of truth. I am studying the human condition and what it is to understand my surrounding environment. I was brought to this topic by fate and have embraced its influence. The abundance of ferns has struck my intrigue and obtaining their knowledge is necessary on my current path in this existence. I have learned quite a bit about these ancient creatures and their diverse beauty and useful energy. I was gifted with the opportunity to work with two brilliant students of both the physical world and the botanical realm. I was curious of the usefulness that ferns display for humanity. I learned of the vast uses that ferns have. The medicinal, agricultural, and culinary applications of ferns are far beyond anything I had imagined and it was a blessing to have discovered this precious information.

Second year student, first year at Evergreen. I enjoyed researching and developing my knowledge about fern reproduction. It was something that I would pay upwards of $4,000 for 10 weeks to study. I hope you learned a thing or two from our research, and of course, if you have any questions feel free to contact!
