This past week in the dark room I came across something very new.
I laid loose leaf notebook paper over the photograph printing paper, the exposure light shines through it, and takes all of the textural and visual qualities with it on to the printing paper. This is an exciting move in the experimental directions in which I aim to walk in the dark room this quarter. Translucent materials translate textures over negatives. I used this technique for the piece I made this week for critique, which I am still thinking of a name for. My first two pieces will be up soon.

I am super psyched on the direction of your work this quarter! This week’s piece was especially reflective of the leap you are taking in aesthetic experimentation; it’s ambiguity makes the mind wander endlessly. I love how you are fearlessly pushing the limits of standard darkroom protocol by playing with translucent material in the enlarger… Keep it up. Kevin and I want to know if we can feature your art in our albums?????
I really enjoyed your photos this week and the idea of using loose leaf notebook paper is something I had never considered. I would love to be able to view your photos on this blog as well so I could read what you had to say about them while also having a chance to study them. I love your idea and can’t wait to see what other interesting things you find out in the darkroom.
