White rot of Alliums

White rot of Alliums is caused by the Sclerotium cepivorum, which form differentiated sclerotia and have sterile mycelia. Technically a basidiomycete, our culture formed mycelial clamp connections thus confirming the pathogen is not of the ascomycete Sclerotinia genus, which causes white cottony rot in a broad host range.
