Back to the Future: What do predictions about the future tell us about the present and the past?  How can we do a “History of the Future”?   This program might explore prognostications from biblical times through Malthus to millenarianism and cargo cults, Italian Futurism, World’s Fairs, Star Trek and beyond, drawing on science fiction, film, art history, architecture, cultural studies, anthropology, women’s studies, economics, and religious studies.  

History in the Making:  The production of history, broadly conceived.  This might entail an examination of the creation of archives, tha classification of knowledge, popular historical memory, nationalist histories, monuments, and museums.
