Favorite Tea Related Thing Tasted
Before this program tea was set in our mind as a quick beverage. You boil water until the pot whistles, throw a green tea packet into a cup and pour in the scalding hot water. This program has taught us that there is more to tea than the generic green tea packet. Throughout the program we have had the opportunity to taste a variety of teas; to choose a favorite tea-related thing tasted was a difficult task. Collectively as a group, we decided that our favorite tea-related thing tasted was the Oolong Teas provided by Dewey Meyer during our tasting lab. We had the opportunity to taste six types of Oolong teas ranging in different levels of oxidation. During the first half of the tasting we were able to sit in the longhouse and sip on the floral scented and yellow hued oolong teas while listening to Dewey Meyer explain the background of each tea. The experience was pleasant and the aroma along with the fresh earthy flavored tea was an experience to remember. Along with tasting the tea we were also able to brew our own oolong tea. Being able to brew our own tea allowed us to see how time can greatly affect the taste and color of oolong tea. Brewing a small pot of tea and having good conversation with fellow classmates was enjoyable. Tea is now not only seen as a simple beverage but something that can create conversation and friendship.
