OLYMPIA, Wash. – Giving Cascade Collegiate Conference runners a chance to run the standard for the NAIA National Championships Marathon, The Evergreen State College hosted the annual Geoduck Gallop on Sunday morning and it was a success yet again as 145 runners took to the course for the 2011 edition.
In the 10k race, which was run by a nearly entirely unattached field, the top time went to Josiah Price of Guerilla Racing Club, who finished the course in 31:51.37. Belle Price, also of Guerilla Racing Club, was the top finishing female, covering the 10-kilometer course in 43:52.56. Kayla Winkle of Warner Pacific was the lone collegiate in the race, taking 13th overall in the mixed field with a time of 44:37.37.
The half-marathon was won by 22-year-old Cory Jenkins of the Harrier Track Club. Jenkins covered the 13.1 miles in 1:10:44.98, over one minute quicker than second-place Jesse Stevick of Guerilla Racing Club. Evergreen senior Christopher Johnson (Bonney Lake, Wash./Spanaway HS) was the top finishing collegiate athlete, finishing the race in 1:23:26.58.
For the women, Kristen Lawrence of Bremerton, Wash. was the top finishing female, covering the course in 1:22:47.78. Warner Pacific junior Leah Ballard was the top collegiate finisher for the women, posting a NAIA automatic qualifying time of 1:32:30.83.
The Geoducks will turn their attention back indoors this weekend as junior Karissa Carlson will represent Evergreen at the Bronco Open on Saturday at the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho.
