SEATTLE – Running the 1500m for the first time this season, senior Karissa Carlson (Pateros, Wash./Pateros HS) took fifth at the Club Northwest Spring Break open on Saturday at West Seattle Stadium in Seattle, Wash.
Carlson finished the race in 4:54.27 to easily meet the Cascade Conference Championship qualifying mark of 5:02.39. It’s the second qualifying time for Carlson, who met the qualifying mark in the 800m run on March 10 at the PLU Invitational.
On the men’s side, sophomore Zephyr Forest (Fairfax, Calif./Drake HS) had a solid day, taking fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.76 to shave nearly two seconds off his season best. Forest also took eighth in the 110m hurdles with a mark of 17.74.
The Geoducks will head south of the 45th parallel for the first time this season as they take part in the Willamette Invitational on Saturday in Salem, Ore.
