GRESHAM, Ore. – Setting a new school record by nearly six inches, sophomore Meaghan Tomasiewicz (Monroe, Wis./Monroe HS) led the way for the Evergreen Geoducks with a fourth place finish in the women’s pole vault on day two of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Track and Field Championships at Mount Hood CC in Gresham, Ore.
Tomasiewicz cleared the height on her second attempt at 3.05m (10-0.0) to earn the Geoducks five points on their first day of competition but the second day of the championships. Junior Maddison Stapleton of Eastern Oregon took the title in the event, clearing 3.20m on her first attempt to win the tiebreaker over two other competitors.
Junior Karissa Carlson (Pateros, Wash./Pateros HS) ran 4:47.41 to take fifth in a competitive 1500m run that was won by freshman Hillary Holt of College of Idaho. Also setting a new school record was junior Evelyn Coleman (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor HS), who broke her own mark in the 100m hurdles with a time of 21.29, taking 10th place overall.
On the men’s side, junior Connor Abdelnoor set a new school record in the 110m hurdles, taking 11th with a time of 16.21 to break his own mark by 18 one-hundredths of a second. Senior Chris Wilson of Concordia took home the individual title in the event, posting an NAIA provisional time of 14.88.
After two days, Concordia holds a sizable lead in the women’s standings with 144.5 points, nearly double that of second-place Eastern Oregon, who has 77.5. On the men’s side, Southern Oregon has 109 points to hold an 11-point lead over second place Concordia. The final day of competition is set to begin on Saturday at 10 a.m.
