Referencing What is Already There

Within my area of inquiry, there is a large residential area. Compared to the park below, this section of my area of inquiry is very still. There is little to no movement, sound, and action. I am surrounded by dull concrete and quite houses. All I can smell is heated concrete, fertilizer, and fresh paint. There is trash everywhere, and the lack of wind surprises me. It’s sort of strange that you can move a mere 500 feet and experience something completely different. I guess you could say that is why people require parks in their lives. they need a conveniently placed space where they can escape the organized, enclosed, safe area we call our homes. People need to enter a place that is chaotic and fresh and naturally stimulating.

In the northwest we are lucky, natural areas are implemented everywhere. You don’t have to travel far to get to any fresh spot. Our back yards and neighborhood streets are speckled with evergreen trees and lush foliage (which also attracts a fair share of fauna). But people still need their designated sports for outdoor time. People still need their place to mindlessly belong.

Even if its a man made park, it’s still mottled after nature. People are so obediently attached to nature that we represent in our homes through yard work, art, and decorations. Sometimes just a painting is enough to put us in a getaway setting. We don’t visualize nature because we like to, we do it because we have to. As noted in my previous posts, people expect references to nature everywhere. Sooner or later that’s all nature will become, a reference to what once was.

We are very lucky to have such a beautiful place to call home. I like how you noted the smell of the concrete and how dull your surroundings were.
I love seeing your notes you took!!
