In 1846 settlers lived on the beach’s of what is today know as East Bay. By the around the 1850s the small community named “swan town” was thriving. In 1890 what is now known as olympia was exporting there abundant resources of timber, shellfish and salmon. By 1893 the dredging of but inlet began. The sediments that were dredged up were then used to make what is currently downtown olympia and expand the peninsula. this newly created land was quickly occupied by lumber mills and log yards. Since this time, East Bay Waterfront park was founded in 1994.
