Capitol Lake Arc of Statehood County Markers

Heritage Park sits east of the Capitol Lake Dam. Along the North Basin Shoreline trail, a 2,500-foot-long pathway features the Arc of Statehood which commemorates each Washington county with a bronze county marker. I only noticed a few, definitely not 39. The next time I visit, I shall search out the other 30 or so. I noticed the markers started by the mound just east of the dam; the mound with a spiral path that leads to a bench on top. There are similar stone blocks continuing around the path without county markers on them. I sat on one and enjoyed the sounds and smells of Heritage Park. I heard the seagulls complain, the ducks argue, the kids scream, the cars puttering off, and many a strange conversation from the path walkers. I smelled the ocean, the reeds by the lake, some delicious restaurant flavors, some local bud which others commented on, and even a few foul odors I chose not to further investigate.
