Capitol Lake Dam Grates

The water rushing below, the wind howling from behind, and the cars whipping by in front made this location a place to feel a rush of adrenaline.

I felt safer on the sidewalk peaking through the grates rather than standing on top of them.

The view of the grates over top of the dam are a mesmerizing site. The pattern is enhanced with the addition of weather’s touch of rusty brown. Trying to focus on the water rushing below is like looking at one of those magical eye patterns, the ones where you have to focus beyond the photo’s patterns in order to see a 3-D image appearing to move as your eyes cross to confusion.

The grates seemed safe enough to walk upon but an eerie sense overwhelmed me once the wind nudged at my back near the edge with only a 4-foot fence behind me. It was only a few feet above the sidewalk, yet it felt just a little too high for comfort. The grates creaked and rocked as I walked upon them, so I decided to take the lower rode next to the traffic.
