OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Evergreen State women’s basketball team lost an up and down battle Friday night hosting the Corban University Warriors in conference play at the CRC Gymnasium. The Geoducks (0-3 CCC), who trailed 45-25 at halftime outscored Corban (2-0 CCC) 35-30 in the second half but were unable to convert late in the game before ultimately falling to the Warriors 75-60
Latrina Woods (Skyway, Wash. / La Sierra University) went 5-13 shooting and led the Geoducks in scoring with 13 points. Woods added six rebounds and six steals before she fouled out late in the second half. Evergreen forward Cambria Smith (Anaheim, Ca. / La Sierra University) had 11 points of her own and pulled down six rebounds in the effort.
Corban junior Katie Steigleman (Eugene, Ore. / Sheldon HS) had an outstanding performance as she produced a double-double before halftime. Steigleman finished with 27 points and 10 steals before she left the floor near the end of the game with a leg injury. Tess Bennett (Sutherlin, Ore. / Sutherlin HS) had 13 points while senior Jennesa Miller (Mica, Wash. / Freeman HS) contributed 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the victory.
As a team, the Geoducks shot 32 percent from the field. Corban, who came into the game ranked third in the conference, shot 43 percent from the floor and knocked down 20-27 from the free-throw stripe.
The Geoducks host Northwest Christian University Saturday night at the CRC Gymnasium at 7:30.
