Box Score
ASHLAND, Ore. – Taking to the road for the first time in 2011, the Evergreen State Geoducks fell to the host Southern Oregon Raiders, 79-57, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball game on Friday evening in Ashland, Ore.
Both teams struggled to find the inside of the basket early in the game as the teams were a combined six-for-28 to open the game as Southern Oregon (11-8, 4-3 CCC) held a slight advantage. The Raiders eventually figured out how to get the ball to go into the hoop as they were able to extend the lead into double-digits with 11:10 left in the opening period. While the Geoducks (3-10, 1-5 CCC) slowly found their stroke, the Raiders continued to pull ahead, taking a 40-25 lead into the halftime break.
The Geoducks were led by six first-half points from senior Latrina Woods (Skyway, Wash./La Sierra University). As a team, Evergreen was strong on defense, picking up five steals on six total SOU turnovers.
In the second period, the Raiders continued to put the pressure on the Geoducks, extending the lead but the Geoducks improved on offense as well, matching their first half point total with 4:39 left in the game. Despite the big point differential, neither team let off the gas, playing hard to the final buzzer as SOU collected the 79-57 win.
The Geoducks were led by 14 points each from Woods and Shekia Hill (Steilacoom, Wash./Steilacoom HS). Freshman Latifa Ward (Tacoma, Wash./Foss HS) chipped in 10 rebounds for Evergreen, who collected nine steals as a team.
Southern Oregon was led by 12 points from Jamie Roupp. Alexi Smith added 10 points to go with 12 rebounds to collect the double-double as 12 different players scored for SOU. The Raiders held a 51-40 rebounding advantage on the night.
Evergreen will wrap up the brief road trip on Saturday night when they travel to Klamath Falls to take on Oregon Tech.
