PORTLAND, Ore. – A slow first half was too much to overcome as the Evergreen Geoducks fell to the Lewis & Clark Pioneers, 74-41, in a non-conference women’s basketball game on Tuesday evening at Pamplin Sports Center in Portland, Ore.
The Geoducks (1-1) took the initial lead following an administrative technical on Lewis & Clark (1-0) before the game even tipped off as Sami Clark (Monroe, Wash./Edmonds CC) converted on a pair of free throws to give them 2-0 lead. Unfortunately for Evergreen, the Geoducks wouldn’t get back on the scoreboard until the 12:45 mark, ending an 18-0 run by L&C. The Pioneers continued to push the tempo in the first half, taking a 43-15 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Geoducks found their shot, converting on 33.3% of attempts from the field, and the Pioneers went for 41.4% shooting in the first half to 34.8% in the second, but the gap was too much for Evergreen to overcome, as the Pios earned the 74-41 win.
Evergreen was led by 15 points from Clark, the only Geoduck in double-digit scoring. Lewis & Clark was led by 11 points each from Megan Spence and Katie Anderson. Spence also added 11 rebounds on the night to collect the double-double.
Evergreen will make the trip to Oregon again on Saturday when they take on Linfield. Tip-off with the Wildcats is set for 6pm in McMinnville, Ore.
