PORTLAND, Ore. – Playing their third game of 2011, the Evergreen Geoducks did something on Friday night that they hadn’t done in nearly two years as they picked up their first win since 2009 in a 1-0 victory over the Lewis & Clark Pioneers in a non-conference women’s soccer match in Portland, Ore.
The Geoducks (1-2) got on the scoreboard just nine minutes in as Brianna Speed (Seattle, Wash./Lake Washington HS) fired in her second goal of the year to take the early 1-0 lead over the host Pioneers (0-1).
The game then went on the defensive as the two teams combined for just five remaining shots over the final 81 minutes. Evergreen keeper Lauren Davidson (Seattle, Wash./North Seattle CC) made three saves to pick up her first shutout for the green and white.
The win was the first for the Geoducks since a 1-0 win over George Fox on Sept. 13, 2009. It ws the first road win for Evergreen since Oct. 3, 2008 when the Geoducks earned a 1-0 win at Cascade College.
Evergreen will take the pitch again next Friday when they play host to George Fox in their 2011 home opener.
