PORTLAND, Ore. – Evergreen (Wash.) went on the road to defeat NCAA Division III foe Lewis & Clark 1-0 last Friday, posting its first win in nearly two seasons and earning the Geoducks the CCC’s “Verizon Team of the Week” award.

The Geoducks, who improved to 1-2 on the season, tallied the only goal it needed nine minutes into the match, courtesy of senior Brianna Speed.

The game then went on the defensive as the two teams combined for just five remaining shots over the final 81 minutes.

Evergreen keeper Lauren Davidson made three saves to pick up her first shutout for the green and white.

The win was the first for the Geoducks since a 1-0 win over George Fox on Sept. 13, 2009. It was the first road win for Evergreen since Oct. 3, 2008, when the Geoducks earned a 1-0 win at Cascade College.

“We were all thrilled with the win,” said second-year coach Adam Fenster. β€œIt’s a stat we’ve wanted to change for a long time, and for it to come under the lights, on the road and after our 2-1 loss to Pacific the night before felt good. It’s nice to see how far we’ve come in the last year. I know the girls were pleased with their performance and hope to put more games like that together this year.”
