CHENEY, Wash. – Riding a two-match winning streak, the Evergreen Geoducks headed east to take on NCAA Division I Eastern Washington but the Eagles weren’t very gracious hosts, earning their first win of the season with a 4-0 win over the Geoducks in a non-conference women’s soccer match on Friday afternoon in Cheney, Wash.
It didn’t take long for the Eagles (1-6) to get on the scoreboard as Cassie Black managed to intercept an Evergreen (2-3) pass and beat Geoduck keeper Lauren Davidson (Seattle, Wash./North Seattle CC) for the 1-0 lead in the eighth minute. Black scored her second goal of the afternoon in the 25th minutes after Siara Byers fed a cross to the front of the goal and Black only needed one touch to get it past Davidson for the 2-0 EWU lead.
The Eagles scored their third goal in the 32nd minute as Jessica Walla fed a thru ball to the feet of Kasey McNeill, who finished in the bottom corner for the 3-0 lead. The Geoducks defense stepped it up for the next 50 minutes as EWU didn’t score their fourth goal until the 81st minute as Kirsten Fausko fathered a rebound off a Davidson save and put it in the net to finish out the scoring on the afternoon.
EWU, out of the Big Sky Conference, outshot the Geoducks, 21-4, on the match and held a 12-0 advantage on corner kicks. Davidson finished with four saves for Evergreen while Jamie Walker made one save in the first half for Eastern before being replaced by Nathalie Schwery, who made two second half saves for the Eagles.
The Geoducks will take the pitch again on Sep. 24 when they play host to Yakima Valley CC in a scrimmage on Evergreen Pitch. Evergreen’s next counting match will be on Sep. 28 at home against Trinity Lutheran.
