Why do you come to the Computer Center?

After an exhaustive and highly non-scientific analysis of why you come to the Computer Center, we have the results you have been waiting for.  The winner, of course is free printing followed closely (not too close though) by “I enjoy suffering”.  There is help for you, don’t despair.  There were of course a few choice tidbits offered which we found particularly compelling, not least of which were the following thoughts on why people found themselves in the Computer Center;

  • I can get help if i need it
  • Sanctuary from porn and video games
  • No home internet, plus free printing
  • You 😉
  • GIS software!
  • Freeprinting +internet +secure computers with high speed access, convenient access hours
  • Both free printing & I hate lugging my laptop around

Thanks for participating and please stuff the ballot box in the next “Computer Center Question of the Week”

Addressing An Issue: Windows Login Times

We have implemented a change to our Windows machines to improve load times. This addresses a persistant problem in the Computer Center that is a result of using Windows 7 in a lab setting. As a response to student concerns identified in a survey on this blog, we reduced the load time by 2 minutes. Unfortunately, that still leaves a load time of 3 minutes, so we will continue to work on this issue.

In the meantime, consider using the same machine each time you use the Center. So long as you have logged in to a specific Windows machine once before, you will enjoy a login time closer to 1 minute, rather than 3. Of course, the login times for Linux and Mac OS are considerably faster, and you’re always welcome to use those machines as well.

Our Student Publication: Seeds and Circuits

Seeds and Circuits, a publication of the Academic Computing Center at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA.We’re always working on something amazing here at Evergreen’s Academic Computing Center. Our latest masterpiece is an all new student publication: SEEDS AND CIRCUITS.

Take a look at our first issue, if you will. We’d love to have you tell us how TOTALLY AWESOME it is! If you’ve got anything else to say, we’re willing to hear that, too.

Seeds and Circuits is created by the student staff of the Academic Computing Center. It is written and edited BY and FOR students at The Evergreen State College.

We’re on Facebook, too!

Wow! It’s official.

We’ve got a page on FACEBOOK, too. We know you like us, but now you can “like” us!

Our Facebook page is interesting and informative. We’ll keep you posted on need to read things on the Internet and our regular hours as well. Of course, your academic work comes first! But you can’t study all the time, right?
