Through the research of Jeremy Lin and “Linsanity,” my “home” has more correlation with Asian-American culture, because of the connection I feel I share with this individual and his story in comparison to my own. I feel his story has opened the door and become a pipeline for American and Chinese basketballs players to chase their dreams. This type of networking can ultimately change the culture of basketball and the world as a whole by bringing together multiple nations and ethnic backgrounds under one common goal. In “When the Emperor was Divine,” I feel “Linsanity” correlates with this story because of the similarities in the feeling of having everything taken from you because of your cultural background and being doubted because of it [cultural background] in your sport/niche. Racism and discrimination such as this leads to having your dreams, goals, and freedoms to be taken from you; not because of your inability to complete the task or to compete with everyone else, but because of where you were born and how you were raised. And like Asian immigrants back in the day, Lin seized the opportunity despite the hardships he faced.
