This week we dove head first into Asian American Pop Culture with a class viewing of Ghost in the Shell. While there were some visually stunning elements within the film, there wasn’t much else there. Between flat overall performances and the troublesome white washing of a cast, my notes on this film were minimal. It was just another opportunity missed for Hollywood to diversify.
In terms of the book we were asked to read this week on Asian American history, I have to admit I found the text a bit dry. I often times have a hard time connecting to non-fiction texts. However, what this particular book lacked in overall curb appeal, it made up for in information. I was excited to finally have an opportunity to learn about a major part of American history and culture that is so often swept out of history text books and overlooked.
